The Monvue Shade Guide: Finding the Colour That Feels Like You

Choosing coloured contact lenses can feel like choosing a new version of yourself. We don't think it should.

At Monvue, we believe colour should feel like an extension of you — not something that hides your natural beauty or makes you feel like you need to look different to look beautiful.

Our coloured contact lenses are thoughtfully designed to work with the depth of your natural eyes, your complexion and your undertone. The goal isn't simply to change your eye colour. It's to create colour that feels harmonious, effortless and, most importantly, like you.

Especially when choosing coloured contact lenses for dark eyes, understanding how colour interacts with your natural eye colour and complexion can help you find a shade that feels more natural.

Before finding your Monvue shade, it helps to understand one small part of your complexion: your undertone.

Understanding Your Undertone

Your skin tone is the colour you see on the surface of your skin. Your undertone is the subtle colour underneath it.

While your skin tone can change with the seasons, sun exposure or even your skincare routine, your undertone generally remains consistent.

Understanding it can help you see why certain colours naturally seem to complement your complexion — but it should never become a set of rules about what you can or cannot wear.

  • Warm
    Warm Undertones

Subtle golden, yellow or peachy tones. If gold jewellery complements your complexion, or shades like caramel, terracotta and golden brown feel harmonious against your skin, you may lean warm. Warm-toned lens shades can enhance this natural warmth, creating a softer and more luminous effect.

  • Cool
    Cool Undertones

Subtle pink, red or bluish tones. Soft grey, cool brown, mauve and certain jewel tones can create beautiful contrast against a cooler complexion. A cooler shade can add definition to the eyes without necessarily making the look dramatic.

  • Neutral
    Neutral Undertones

Sits somewhere between warm and cool. You may find that both gold and silver jewellery complement your complexion — giving you more flexibility to experiment across the range, depending on the look you want to create.

Why Can the Same Coloured Contact Lens Look Different on Different People?

This is one of the most important things to understand when choosing coloured contact lenses.

A lens does not exist in isolation. The final colour you see is influenced by several things — your natural eye colour, the depth of your eyes, your skin tone, your undertone and even the lighting around you.

For example, a brown lens placed over a very dark brown eye may appear deeper and more subtle. On a lighter natural eye, the same shade may appear brighter. The same applies to skin. A golden-brown shade may bring out warmth in one complexion, while creating a softer contrast against another.

That is why an exact colour swatch can never tell the entire story. This is particularly important when choosing coloured contact lenses for Indian skin tones, where natural eye depth and complexion can interact differently with the same shade.

At Monvue, we design our shades with this natural interaction in mind.

Our Colour Philosophy

Monvue wasn't created simply to make eyes look a different colour. We created our shades to complement what is already there — your natural eye colour, your complexion, your undertone, your personal style.

We believe coloured contact lenses should enhance these elements rather than compete with them.

Especially when designing for deeper, melanin-rich eyes, we wanted colour to feel intentional. Not overly bright. Not artificial. Not as though it was simply sitting on top of the eye. Instead, we wanted shades that could create a sense of depth, warmth and dimension while still feeling wearable.

Colour should add to your confidence — never take away from it.

Because you don't need to change your complexion to wear colour. You don't need to be a particular skin tone to enjoy a certain shade. And you certainly shouldn't feel that your natural skin tone is something you need to be less confident about.

Meet the Monvue Shades

Our collection moves across warm browns, golden tones, soft grey and muted green — each designed to create a different expression while keeping the overall look effortless.

  • 01Sand
If you want a soft, natural brown

Sand is a soft brown designed for those who want an understated change. It brings warmth and definition to the eyes while keeping the result natural-looking and easy to wear — the shade you reach for when you want your eyes to look subtly different without looking dramatically transformed.

  • 02Sunset
If you want a warmer, richer brown

Sunset takes brown a little deeper and warmer. Inspired by the warmth of a sunset, this shade adds richness and dimension to the eyes while remaining grounded in a natural colour family — ideal when you want your eyes to look warmer and more defined without moving too far away from brown.

  • 03Amber
If you want golden, honey-like warmth

Amber brings a golden quality to the eyes. Sitting between golden brown and honey brown, it adds warmth and luminosity while maintaining a sophisticated, wearable finish — a subtle way to introduce golden warmth without an overly dramatic transformation.

  • 04Stone
If you want a cooler, sophisticated look

Stone takes the collection in a cooler direction. A soft grey shade can create beautiful definition and contrast, offering a more sophisticated change while still feeling refined — smoky rather than icy, designed to feel wearable rather than intense.

  • 05Sage
If you want a subtle green transformation

Sage is our muted green. Designed to introduce colour without overpowering the natural depth of the eyes, Sage creates a soft green transformation that can feel surprisingly effortless against deeper brown eyes and brown-toned complexions.

But consider this a starting point — not a rulebook. The best contact lens shade is ultimately the one that works with your personal style and the kind of look you want to create.

There Is No “Perfect” Shade — Only the One That Complements You

We don't believe there is one perfect coloured contact lens shade for one particular skin tone. Beauty doesn't work that way.

Two people can have a similar complexion and completely different ideas of what makes them feel beautiful. One person may want warmth. Another may want contrast. Someone else may simply want their eyes to look a little brighter while keeping everything else understated.

So instead of asking “which coloured contact lens colour is perfect for my skin tone?” — perhaps the better question is: “which colour complements me the way I want it to?”

Your skin tone can help you understand how a colour may interact with your complexion. Your undertone can help you understand whether a shade will create warmth or contrast. But ultimately, your choice is yours.

Still deciding?

The Trial Pack pairs Sage, Sand and Stone in one box — a low-commitment way to see how a cool, a warm-neutral and a green shade each behave on your own eyes before you settle on one.

You can choose Sand because you want something soft. Sunset because you want warmth. Amber because you want golden, honey-like brightness. Stone because you love a cooler, sophisticated look. Or Sage because you're ready for a subtle touch of green.

There is no right answer. There is only the shade that makes you look in the mirror and feel a little more like yourself.

Colour Should Feel Like You

At Monvue, we don't want coloured contact lenses to make you feel like you need to become someone else. We want them to make you feel more confident experimenting with the version of yourself you already are.

Because your complexion isn't something to correct. Your natural eye colour isn't something to hide. And colour isn't something that should come with limitations. It's something you get to play with.

Find the shade that complements your natural colouring, fits your style and makes you feel good wearing it. Because the most beautiful colour isn't necessarily the one that changes you the most. It's the one that feels like you.
