The basics

What are powered coloured contact lenses?

Powered coloured contact lenses do two jobs at once: they change how your eyes look, and they correct your vision.

If you're short-sighted (myopia), that means you can wear the shade you love and still read the menu, the whiteboard and the road signs. No squinting required.

One thing worth knowing early: the word “powered” is about your prescription, not about how bold the colour looks. A powered lens can be as soft or as striking as its shade. The power never changes that.

  • Colour + vision correctionPowered coloured lenses

Combine a cosmetic colour effect with a specified power, like -2.00 D, to correct short-sightedness.

  • Colour onlyZero-power (plano) lenses

Change the look of your iris without providing spherical vision correction. Also called plano lenses.

Both are real contact lenses that sit on the tear film of your eye. Neither is an ordinary beauty accessory, and both need proper fitting, handling and care.

The shade doesn't tell you the power, and the power doesn't tell you the shade.
Power, decoded

What does contact lens power actually mean?

You've probably seen numbers like -1.00, -2.00 or -6.00 on a prescription. That's optical power, measured in diopters (D). In plain terms, it describes how much a lens bends light so it lands in the right place at the back of your eye.

  • Negative (-)Short-sightedness

Myopia: distant things look blurry. This is the correction Monvue's powered range is built for.

  • Positive (+)Long-sightedness

Hyperopia: focusing on nearby things can be hard. Not part of Monvue's 0.00 to -6.00 range.

  • Zero (0.00 / plano)No correction

No spherical vision correction. Colour effect only.

Think of your eye as a camera. Light enters at the front and needs to land sharply on the retina. When it lands a little short or a little long, the picture blurs. A powered lens nudges the light so it lands in the right place.

A zero-power lens has a different job. It still has a shape, a thickness and a material. It just doesn't add a prescription. So “zero power” doesn't mean “no lens”. It only describes the correction.

A quick honest note

Monvue's powered range runs from plano (0.00) to -6.00. If your prescription includes plus power or a cylinder (astigmatism) value, speak to your eye-care professional and talk to our team before you order.

Finding your number

How do you find the right power for your eyes?

Start with your eyes, not the colour. Power first, shade second.

  • Step 01Get your eyes checked

No current contact lens prescription? Book an assessment with an optometrist or other qualified eye-care professional.

  • Step 02Ask for your contact lens power

A glasses prescription isn't automatically the same. Lenses sit on your eye, not in front of it, and the difference can matter more as powers get stronger.

  • Step 03Never guess

Don't copy a friend's number or go by the strength you remember. Your prescription can change over time.

  • Step 04Match power to shade

Check the product page. Availability can vary by shade and range.

  • Step 05Check the fit

Power is only one part of a suitable lens. Fit matters too.

How to read your prescription in 30 seconds

Prescriptions can look like code. Here is the cheat sheet.

  • OD / OSRight / left eye

Your two eyes can have different powers. That's completely normal.

  • SPHSphere

The main power, like -2.00. This is the number a powered coloured lens is chosen by.

  • CYL / AXISAstigmatism

If these are filled in, mention them to your eye-care professional before ordering.

  • BC / DIALens fit

Base curve and diameter. These appear on contact lens prescriptions, not usually on glasses ones.

Myth check

Powered vs zero-power lenses: four myths, busted

  • Myth“Zero power means anyone can wear them.”

Zero power only means no spherical correction. A lens still rests on your eye, and fit, hygiene and wear schedule matter. Poor fit or incorrect use can cause irritation, injury or infection.

  • Myth“Powered lenses look different.”

Not necessarily. They can share the same colour designs. The difference is optical function, not how natural or noticeable the colour looks.

  • Myth“My glasses number is my lens number.”

Not automatically. Contact lenses need their own assessment because they sit directly on the eye.

  • Myth“If I love a shade, it comes in my power.”

Not always. Availability can vary by shade and range, so check the exact product listing.

The colour

How do coloured lenses change the way your eyes look?

The colour effect comes from a pattern built into the lens, using shades, gradients and blended or defined areas. What you see in a product photo isn't necessarily what you'll see in the mirror, because the final look depends on your natural iris colour, the colour pattern, the pigment and the lighting around you.

That's especially true for dark brown eyes. Most coloured lenses around the world were designed around lighter eyes, and on a deep brown iris a flat colour tends to sit on top and look painted. Monvue was built the other way round. Every lens has three layers of pigment (Base Harmony, Chromatic Depth and Edge Definition), with more than 200 individual pigment points, so the colour has depth and the edge fades into your eye instead of drawing a ring around it.

  • Soft green-blueSage

For when you want something properly different without looking like a costume.

  • Warm, earthySand

The “rested, not done” shade. A gentle step from your natural brown.

  • Balanced greyStone

Smoky rather than icy. Good with black liner and cooler outfit colours.

  • Rich caramelSunset

Warm and glowing. Lovely with rust, red and gold.

  • GoldenAmber

Catches the light beautifully and picks up gold and bronze makeup.

Decide

Powered or zero-power: which is right for you?

Start with your vision needs, then think about colour.

  • You need correctionGo powered

Ask an eye-care professional to confirm your power, then check your shade is available in it.

  • Your vision is clearZero-power may work

Plano lenses can be an option once an eye-care professional confirms they're suitable and properly fitted.

Under the surface

What else matters besides power and colour?

Two lenses can look identical in a photograph and still be very different. Before you choose, look at the details below.

  • FitBase curve and diameter

These shape how a lens sits on your eye. A lens that looks right in a photo may not be right for you.

  • MaterialOxygen transmission

Monvue uses a hioxifilcon D hydrogel with high oxygen permeability. Oxygen reaching your cornea matters for eye health.

  • Comfort54% water content

Part of the comfort story, not the whole of it. Water content alone doesn't guarantee comfort.

  • RoutineDaily disposable

Wear once, bin at night, start fresh tomorrow. Designed for 8+ hours of wear.

Curious what's actually inside a lens? Inside the Lens explains it in plain language, and our seven daily disposable habits cover the everyday routine.

When to take them out

Never share lenses, and don't sleep, swim or shower in them unless a qualified professional and the product instructions say it's appropriate. If you feel pain, redness, unusual sensitivity to light or blurred vision, take your lenses out and see an eye-care professional promptly.

This guide is general information, not a substitute for an eye examination, a contact lens fitting or professional medical advice. Always consult an eye-care professional before wearing any contact lens, coloured or clear.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I get coloured contact lenses with power?

Yes. Powered coloured contact lenses combine a colour effect with vision correction. Monvue offers coloured contact lenses with power from 0.00 to -6.00: plano (0.00) plus prescription powers from -0.50 to -6.00. Check the product page for the exact shade and power you want.

Does Monvue offer coloured contact lenses from 0 to -6 power?

Yes. Monvue offers coloured contact lenses in plano (0.00) and prescription powers from -0.50 to -6.00. They are daily disposables made in South Korea, with shades designed for Indian eyes and skin tones. Availability can vary by shade, so check the product details before ordering.

How do I find the right power for coloured contact lenses?

Get a contact lens assessment from a qualified eye-care professional and confirm your current contact lens prescription. Do not guess your number or copy someone else's. If you need help understanding the shades and powers available at Monvue, talk to our team through the contact page or at care@monvue.in.

Should I choose my lens power based on my glasses prescription?

No, not automatically. A glasses prescription is not interchangeable with a contact lens prescription, because lenses sit directly on your eye rather than in front of it. Ask an eye-care professional to confirm the right contact lens power and fit.

Can I wear coloured contact lenses if I have perfect eyesight?

You may be able to wear zero-power (plano) coloured contact lenses, but clear eyesight does not confirm that a lens is suitable for you. Professional assessment, fitting and proper care still matter, because a lens rests directly on your eye.

Can zero-power coloured lenses correct blurry vision?

No. Zero-power (plano) lenses do not provide the usual spherical prescription correction used for common refractive errors like short-sightedness. If your vision is blurry, ask an eye-care professional about powered lenses.

Do powered and zero-power coloured lenses look different?

Not necessarily. They can have the same cosmetic design. The main difference is optical function: powered lenses correct vision, zero-power lenses do not. How a shade looks on you depends on your natural eye colour, the lens pattern and the lighting.

Are all coloured contact lens shades available in every power?

Not always. Power availability can vary by shade, brand and product range. Always check the specifications for the exact lens you want, and choose your power before your shade.

Does Monvue offer plus (+) powers or lenses for astigmatism?

Monvue's range covers plano (0.00) and minus powers from -0.50 to -6.00. If your prescription includes plus power or a cylinder (astigmatism) value, speak to your eye-care professional and talk to our team before ordering.
